I was humbled to be invited to speak about my suicide experience at the Simcoe County Suicide Awareness Council’s fundraising walk yesterday. This was their 13th annual walk. It was comforting being around so many who have been impacted by suicide. My message was that we need to be talking about suicide no differently then how we talk about whats for dinner, our next vacation or how our favourite sports team is doing. It is only when we can do that, that we have any hope of normalizing the conversation, smashing the stigma that still exists surrounding suicide and ultimately make it that much easy for those struggling to actually reach out. When we can stop tip toeing around the subject we can then save lives.
